[SFICC] Tech Workshop! Sunday October 5th - Posted by Gary Trinh (09/28/2008)

Hi kiddies!

Perhaps some of you might have wanted to change your own oil or rotate your own tires with an impact gun but never got the chance to learn. Or perhaps you fit in with the crowd where you've long been doing your own work, but are curious as to what it looks like under somebody else's car.

Well whichever group you belong to, the coming Sunday promises to be well worth coming out for! There's nothing quite like the experience of coming together to talk cars, to work on cars, beer in one hand, wrench in the other.

On the itinerary -Jacky gets into advanced car detailing. polishes, polishers, pads, glazes, sealants, epic crazy shit like PORTER CABLES (wtf is that? -sonca) -Sonca shows us how to change out the brake pads and fluid on his s2k -Somebody does the oil change on Justin's GSR -Random things to be done on Sean's Trans Am (and I'm SURE something needs doing.. maybe refill his NOS bottle? :p) -Need stuff done on your car? Bring the parts, bring the car, and bring DIY instructions if you have them. We'll provide guidance, supervision, and tools.

As per SFICC tradition, we'll head off for food and a drink after. Possibly a small cruise/photoshoot.

Cost $3 to cover drinks and shop towels.

Location Sean's huge driveway. Located in sunny Surrey, BC. around noonish. Click on link below for map.

6580 148a Street, Surrey, BC

What do I bring? 1)$3.00 2)appropriate clothing for rolling around on the ground, change of clothes if you feel it'll be necessary 3)parts for if you want to install stuff there

Contact If you get lost, give Sean a call at 604 889 0942. Cya there! Sonca Teng VP Operations, SFICC

Signup here: http://www.sficc.ca/forums/viewthread.php?tid=3056 Btw if it rains, the Tech Workshop is automatically postponed til Sunday Oct 12th.

[SFICC] Intro: What is SFICC? AutoX? Track? Wings? All 3 and more! - Posted by Gary Trinh (09/12/2008)

SFICC Fall '08 You! Chances are, if you're getting this email, you signed up for our club at some point. "Who is this guy?" That messed in the head dude you met at clubs day? Probably me. I'm Sonca Teng, VP Operations. I drive a grocery getter from hell, and you'll see me in our autocross and track day videos. The other guy running things is our VP Development, Sean Greene. He drives a Trans Am.. aka Batmobile, aka fast-as-fuk-pontiac-that-breaks-all-the-time. He's more into the drag racing but he comes out to autocross on occasion.

"So like, where's the president?"

Some say, the Nurburgring was fashioned after the shape of his balls. And that in a pinch, his schlong will serve as a piston in a Koenigsegg CCX. All we know is, his name is Suhail. Unfortunately he's out of the country at the moment, but you're in good hands. Suhail rides a Yamaha R6, and used to rally race for his local autosport club back home.

"What is SFICC?"

SFICC is SFU's premier automotive community. Whether you're into euros, domestics, or imports, this is the club to join. As stated in our slogan, SFICC has two main focuses: Community [Getting together and shootin' the $#@&] -wings nights, F1 meets (haul ass over to Sean's house and watch F1 on his bigscreen over a bowl of pork rinds) -cruises, photoshoots -gokarting [Talking cars, working on cars, learning cars] -tech workshops Just a quick note - if you joined this club to meet chicks, boy are you in for a surprise. This club is all about chillin' at the pub over a plate of hot wings and a beer, then getting up in the morning for a race day, not a damn tea party! If you want some of the other stuff, join a second club, many of us have! Racing (legalized) -autocross -track days

"Does my car have to be fast or modified?"

No. While a lot of us are into working on our cars, we have plenty of stock (unmodified) cars around and welcome you not for your car, but for the fact that you are a car nut, just like we are. We're all about the community.

"Oh you guys race? I'm not that hardcore.."

Our biggest focus has and always will be on the social aspect. If you're an enthusiast (we're talking a seriously unhealthy addiction to all things automotive), and like talking about or even just learning about cars, this is the club for you. Racing is strictly optional and many of our members, including some of our executives do not race their cars. We encourage you to come out to watch or ride along and give your support though! Autocross and track days are a lot of fun no matter if you're there just to watch, to ride along as passengers, or to race your car.

"So what events are you guys holding this semester?"

The AutoX and Cypress Cruise are set in stone, but the other ones are subject to slight changes. We will send individual emails with specific information for each event.

Sun Sept 14 - AutoX, VCMC NCT #4 Our first autocross of the semester! (...is ironically not hosted by us. !) Now's the time to stretch out your car's legs - redline that motor, thrash that suspension, be all you can be.. without the tickets! VCMC just announced that will not hold any more this season, so this will be your last chance for 6 months. Remember, your first autocross event with VCMC is FREE with SFICC membership!

Sat Sept 20 - Cypress Cruise Come out for a nice spirited drive up the mountain road with us. Once at the top, we'll set our cars up for a photoshoot, get to know one another, check out each other's rides. Stick around as we cruise out to grab some food and a drink.

Wed Sept 24 - Wings Night Come out for wings night and meet the rest of us!

Sun Oct 5 - Tech Workshop Whether you're here to learn how to change your oil, install a set of coilovers, or just to apply your SFICC stickers, come on out for a full day of awesome!

Sat Nov 15 - Gokarting Autocross for the rest of the year has been canceled locally, but that doesn't mean SFICC'ers can't have their racing fun anyway!

TBA - SFICC Nite Rally Scavenger Hunt An SFICC tradition, back by popular demand. Get a car, a driver, and a team. Got what it takes to win? Most fun you'll ever have sober, we guarantee.

"What do I get for joining?"

You get a shiny new membership card. You get an SFICC car decal. You get your first autocross free!! (VCMC autocross event, $25 value, no VCMC membership required) You get discounts at Lordco (30% off), A&J Racing (5-15% off select items), Garage5 (15% off labor), SoundsGood (call Mike), Burnaby Kawasaki (15% off helmets), and NMotion (10% off). Lordco is a automotive accessories chain carrying anything from motor oil (some good shit like Mobil1 and Royal Purple), to wipers (silicon PIAA ones!), to NOS setups, if you're into that kinda thing. Garage5 and AJR do tuning, sell performance parts, and installs. Garage5 is caters to all sorts of vehicles, but AJR focuses on imports, specifically Hondas. AJR also has their own race team. SoundsGood sells audio and alarms, and does quality installs. Burnaby Kawasaki sells Kawasaki motorcycles. They sell us helmets at 15% off which means you can get a good cheap autocross/light track helmet for only about $120, a good price. NMotion mostly sells automotive non-performance accessories, but also does tinting and alarm installs.

"K fine, so how much is membership?"

A low, low $3 for one semester, or $5 for two.

"So I've just joined, now what?"

1)Sign up on the forum and start talking cars today! www.sficc.ca/forums If you don't receive a confirmation email, send the VP an email at rteng@sfu.ca 2)Introduce yourself, and post your pride and joy up on the forum under Members' Rides! Be sure to come out to our great events this semester. If there are two events that I would STRONGLY encourage you to come to, it's the upcoming Autocross event this Sunday, whether to watch, ride along, or race. Remember, your first autocross as an SFICC member is FREE, and we need you for the SFU vs UBC challenge come Spring! The other event I would suggest you mark down on your calendar is the Cypress Cruise, which is next Saturday September 20th. We're driving up the mountain twisties together, getting together to meet the rest of the crew, getting some SFICC pics, then heading off to grab something to eat. This is your best opportunity to meet us!

Congratulations, you've read through the entire email. I can't believe it either. Look for me at our next event, and tell me how much you hate the long ass emails! Regards, Sonca Teng VP Operations, SFICC

[SFICC] SFICC AutoX - NCT #4 - Posted by Gary Trinh (09/12/2008)

Hey guys, NCT#4 is coming up THIS SUNDAY, and it'll be a great chance for all you first-timers to experience autocross for yourselves!

Due to unforseen circumstances, the local car clubs have cancelled their remaining autocrosses for the rest of the year, and so if you don't come to this one, there will be no more opportunities to race for another 6 months.

Remember, with SFICC membership, your first VCMC autocross event is FREE. Take advantage of this opportunity, as it's usually $25.

What: What is autocross? Racing. But out here, it's legal, and it's safe. There's also no pressure to have previous experience or a fast car necessarily. UBCSCC does a better job at explaining than I can, so click here: http://www.ubcscc.com/autoxfaq.shtml

When: 7:30am on Sunday morning for tech inspection. Don't be late!! Tech closes at 8:15am sharp and they will not let you race if you don't get there on time.

Where: Pitt Meadows Airport, BC Driving Center. Click here for directions: http://www.ubcscc.com/autoxfaq.shtml#bcdc

Why: CASH PRIZES! And and opportunity to race your car, without the tickets.

How: Bring a car, any car. Different cars get placed in different classes. Stock cars get separated from lightly modified which get separated from the heavily modified. Don't worry if you're new, you're only eligible to win a prize if you're new anyway - the series itself is called Novice Championship Tour.

Preparation: Clear out your car beforehand. Nothing loose can be in your vehicle while you're racing. You don't need anything else, not even a helmet - they provide you with a loaner if you don't have one. Please check beforehand that you have adequate tire pressure. Get plenty of sleep, you'll want to be fully awake for this.

If you get lost Sunday morning, give me (Sonca, VP, sexy man extraordinaire) a call at 778 996 3045. Please save this number!!

Discussion and Signup here: http://www.sficc.ca/forums/viewthread.php?tid=2979 (you may have to sign up for a new account on our forum - email me back if you have any problems doing so)

We'll see you there, look for the SFICC banner in the corner! The event is hosted by VCMC so there will be a LOT of people. Or if you can't find us, just give me a call. And remember.. if you're racing, DON'T BE LATE!! They literally will not let you participate if you show up later than 8:15, and I'd like you to be there at 7:30 so we can walk you through everything.

Regards, Sonca Teng VP Operations, SFICC

[SFICC] Tech Day - Saturday June 28th - Posted by Gary Trinh (06/25/2008)

[SFICC] Tech Day - Saturday June 28th

It's what you've all been waiting for!

SFICC brings back a classic with TECH DAY!! What is Tech Day? It's an opportunity for beginners to learn, and for diehard enthusiasts to chill over a day of workin' on cars. Possible cruise/photoshoot afterwards too just because everytime we don't plan for one, it happens.

Basics will be covered: -basic tool use -oil changes -rotating tires (taking wheels off, swapping them around, torqueing the lugs) -brake fluid flush -brake pad change -installing Alcantara shift boot. (stfu Justin, it is so Alcantara! and you're going to like it or else.)

Advanced topics will be covered: -figuring out the wtf'd electricals in our favorite silver Integra GSR -figuring out Sean's explodeded rear diff -think Sean mentioned possibly installing a set of cams as well

Cost: $2. Yes two dollars. And what, you might ask, are we gouging you for your hard-earned two dollars over? To pay for shop towels (yes, you will make a mess, i guaaaarantee.), other materials, and SFICC's contribution to "use of Sean's driveway" fund.

Oh. There might not not be beer available too. I mean.. not that SFICC would be providing this or anything, just that it might be sitting there for no reason. And we can't be responsible for someone grabbing an icy cold bottle out of the box and putting a dollar in its place now can we? Surely not.

If you know that I know that you know that I know that you know that I know that you know what I'm sayin'... then it's all good! =)

Date/Time: Saturday July 28th, 1pm - evening.

Location: 6580 148A. St. Surrey BC. (intersection 66th Ave & 148A St)

Contact: If you get lost, call me at 778 996 3045, and I'll try to hand the phone over to someone who knows Surrey LOL.

If you're working on a car, bring appropriate clothing, or change of clothes!! Membership signups will be available on location as well.

If you want your car on jackstands BRING SOME JACKSTANDS!

Be there or else no soup for you!
